LP Chicago at the Bughouse Square Debates

photoThe Libertarian Party of Chicago Meetup Group

Join The Libertarian Party of Chicago at their table at this year’s Bughouse Square Debates presented by the Newberry Library. Free and open to the public.

The event takes place in Washington Square Park across from the Newberry starting at 12 PM with music from Environmental Encroachment Brass Band. The main debates begin at 1 PM and Open Soapbox begins at 2:30 PM.

We strongly recommend our Libertarian Party candidates and activists participate in the Open Soapbox. This event will be a great way to spread the message of Liberty in Chicago and inform the public of our candidates in this upcoming eleciton. If you’d like to volunteer to help staff the table, please message us or email

Per the offical website:
Bughouse Square (bughouse is slang for mental health facility) is the popular name for Washington Square Park. Just south of the Newberry, this park was Chicago’s most boisterous and radical free-speech space from the 1910s through the 1960s. Bohemians, socialists, atheists, and religionists of all persuasions mounted soapboxes, spoke to responsive, vocal crowds, and competed informally for attention and donations. The square’s core contributors, however, came from the Industrial Workers of the World union members whose radical views and wit made them perennial crowd favorites. In the park’s heyday during the 1920s and 1930s, as busloads of tourists ogled the scene, thousands of people gathered on summer evenings. World War II and a post-war crackdown against socialists and communists led to Bughouse Square’s decline and, by the mid-1960s, it had all but ceased to exist. The Newberry and community activists officially revived the spirit of the park with the Bughouse Square Debates in 1986.”

Meet the Candidates – LP Chicago March Meeting

photoThe Libertarian Party of Chicago Meetup Group

This past Election Day, the Libertarian Party further chipped away at the old party duopoly and we have never been bigger. Now is the time to join the movement and we cannot lose momentum. Help us take action against the waste and corruption at City Hall and make Chicago a more free city.

You are invited to join us for our Monthly Meeting. This month, we will be hosting Illinois gubernatorial candidates Kash Jackson, Matthew C. Scaro and Jon Stewart, who will be seeking the Libertarian Party nomination in 2018.

You don’t have to be a member of the Libertarian Party to attend and we encourage people of all political persuasions to attend. Here’s an opportunity to spend an evening with like-minded individuals discussing what’s important to us – Liberty!

2010 Fundraiser to get our candidates on the ballot @ The Rock Bottom Brewery!

photoThe Chicago Libertarian Party Meetup Group

Lets start out the New Year right by helping our candidates raise money to get on the Ballot in 2010! You can help by attending of fundraiser on Jan 8th at the Rock Bottom Brewery in Chicago.

We will have a private room with a dedicated serving staff for 3 hours. In addition they will be able to provide us with 2 viewing screens so that we can show a movie during the event. Suggestions for movie titles are appreciated. 2 suggested so far are "The fall of the Republic" and "IOUSA".
We will need one individual to bring a laptop so we can play the DVD on their screens.

The price for this event is $40.00 and includes 3 hours of an all you can drink package.
The description of the drink package will be detailed on the bottom of this announcement.

They have full food service, so if people want to order dinner it will be available, but it is not included in the package.

The Rock Bottom Brewery is located near the corner of State and Grand. It is just steps away from the CTA Red line. There is a parking garage across the street but the restaurant recommended using their valet service which I believe is either $13 or $17 for the entire evening. Please RSVP by 12/29/2009 so that we will have an accurate head count. If we get over 45 people then we can request a larger room.

Here are the details of the drinks included:

Handcrafted Beer, House Wine, Soda and Well Brand Drinks:

Line Drive Light
This straw-colored Lager is brewed with Pilsen malt to create an easy drinking beer with a crisp and clean finish.

Chicago Gold
This American-style Pale Ale combines the smooth flavor of pale malt with a touch of crystal and Munich malts.

Walleye Wheat
Our rotating Wheat…depending on the season and the whim of our brewers, this may be a Hefeweizen, Wit, Dunkelweizen or other exciting style of Wheat beer.

Erik the Red Ale
A dry-hopped American-style Red Ale brewed with dark crystal malt that lends a caramel and maple character to this deep ruby-colored brew.

Brewmaster’s Choice

Well Drink Selections:
Gilbey’s Vodka, Gilbey’s Gin, Castillo Rum, Montezuma Tequila, Jim Beam Bourbon Whiskey, J & B Scotch Whiskey, Triple Sec, Sweet and Dry Vermouth, Peach Schnapps, Amaretto and Christian Brothers Brandy.
